Cerca Design House

Once known as Casa dos Machados, Casa da Cerca originally belonged to the majorat of Chãos, having remained in the family for eight generations. It was inherited by José Trigueiros de Aragão Osório Martel, who was the Mayor of  Fundão and responsible for the Holy House of Mercy, and was left unused and abandoned throught the years, until the arrival of Marta Augusto Rafael and her family. Believing in the potencial of the estate and of the region, the family invested in a project that culminated with the transformation of Casa da Cerca into a charming country house. Cerca Design House is the result of the dream of creating an elegant and contemporary retreat where you can relax in the comfort of the valley between Serra da Estrela and Serra da Gardunha. Located in the municipality of Fundão, 30 minutes away from Serra da Estrela, the house is the result of an harmonious fusion between the remodeling of a XVII century manor-house and a contemporary and unique design. The sobriety of the stone, which refers to the time of majorats, contrasts with the soft touch of the typical burel woollen cloth (typical in the region) and the vibrant colors of a decoration meant for the relaxation of body and mind. Ecomuseu do Zêzere

The museum is located in the former Tulha dos Cabrais in Rua Pedro Álvares Cabral. It is an educational museum in which we accompany the River Zêzere from its source to its mouth. In each stretch of river we see its most common fauna and flora. It has a temporary exhibition room.

Museu dos Descobrimentos

It used to be the Cabral family home but now houses the municipal library and archives. It is a two-storey longitudinal building with a façade bordered by pilasters, a plain cornice and windows with straight lintels. Over the door in the main façade there is the coat of arms of the Counts of Belmonte, the only one that managed to survive the mutilation of all the coats of arms in the town, as it was only pout up after the troubled times of the First Republic. The Museum of the Discoveries was built from scratch in the grounds. It is an interactive museum that transports visitors through a 500-year history of the construction of a country and its nature. The exhibition addresses the history of the Portuguese discoveries as an element that unified the New World, the voyage of discovery of Brazil, the construction of a sister nation, being Portuguese and much more.

Museu Judaico

The community that for centuries resisted the expulsion edicts of the Catholic Monarchs, the order to convert or leave from King Manuel I and the watchful eye of the Inquisition and its court, deserves to be remembered. Pieces from the Middle Ages to the 20th century used by Jews and New Christians in their worship or everyday lives are on display in this museum.
