Picadeiro D’el Rey

Almeida

Almeida

This riding arena was originally an artillery store and arsenal but has been altered many times. It used to have forges to make and repair weaponry and was once an artillery barracks. It also housed a bakery and it all fell into ruins after the bombings in the 19th century. It still has a portal crowned with the royal coat of arms, the trough building, its circular wall and side walls with buttresses. It was restored in the late 20th century and became a riding arena with a small stud farm.
