Falsa (false) Gate
The gate was given this name as it is a duplicate of the entrance to the walled part. It has a slightly pointed arch that is notched on the outside and a round vault. It has no imposts. It has notched posts. Its initial uses have been lost and that is perhaps why it was walled up to reduce the number of weak points in the defence structure. The differences in the shape of the gates’ arches, two ogival and one round, suggest that the older gate is the one called Nova (New) Gate, in spite of the contradiction. This can maybe be explained by the fact that its name is very old, prior to the remodelling of the other gates in the reign of King Dinis.
