Nobleman’s Mansion

Castelo Mendo

Castelo Mendo

This building dates back to the 19th century and shows late classic influence. It is located on a large piece of land and takes up most of the block. Rendered façade with surrounding stonework and empty frames on the render, it looks incomplete as the southern cornice and pilaster of the main façade are interrupted. It has a quadrangular watchtower that stands high as it is competing with the bell tower of S. Pedro Church in the town’s skyline. It belonged to the peer of the realm António Fragoso de Albuquerque, Lord of Poço Velho.
